A Substance Misuse Strategic Development Officer for Children & Young People has been appointed within BAVO (Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations) to identify how young people access information, guidance, support and treatments relating to substance misuse and alcohol within Bridgend County.

The Welsh Assembly Government has published guidance on Good Practice for the provision of services for Children and Younger People who use or Misuse Substances in Wales which identifies that 'substance misuse in children and young people presents a major public health challenge.'

They give independent advice over the phone to people who live on a low income or benefits about debt, education, benefits and tax credits, employment and housing problems. The service is available Monday to Friday, 9am - 6.30pm

There is an exciting new group for pre-school children coming to this area soon.

Talking Tots is a new venture for South Wales and will be launched in Bridgend early next month. It is a range of classes for children from 12 months old until school age. The aim is to teach them social confidence, listening and attention skills, sharing and turn-taking skills, etc. through structured sessions.
