Real Nappies
Real Nappies - easier to use than you might think!
Kath says: "The thing that really convinced us to give real nappies a go was reading somewhere that virtually every nappy ever used is still lying around somewhere on the planet. What an awful thought!
Kath continues ... Our two boys were born 18 months apart so there was a time when both of them were in nappies, but despite that, once in a routine with the washing we never really found it a problem. The shaped nappies with velcro fasteners together with nappy liners are really easy to use and you can get some really funky designs these days.
We weren't too purist about it though. We used disposables until the boys were 6 weeks old and during holidays and family visits. It was always a funny thing though, whenever we swopped to disposables initially we thought 'great no nappy washing' then after a day or two, the cost combined with throwing tons of nappies in the bin, we were always anxious to get the boys back into the re-usables.
Our boys never got nappy rash, they both potty trained early, we saved ourselves lots of money and we can feel virtuous about all those nappies that didn't end up in landfill -a win-win situation. I'd really recommend parents giving real nappies a go.'
